Order of the Arrow

The Order of the Arrow (OA) is the national honor society of Boy Scouting.

Scouts from Troop 71 who are OA members belong to Pohopoco chapter, Witauchsoman Lodge. Chapter meetings are held the second Tuesday of most months at 7 PM at Mack World Headquarters in Allentown. All OA members are invited.

Purpose
The purpose of the Order of the Arrow is fourfold:
  • To recognize those Scout campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives
  • To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit
  • To promote Scout camping
  • To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others
Organization
  • The basic unit of the OA is the lodge, which is chartered to a local council. Some lodges divide into chapters.
  • Lodges are grouped into sections; sections are grouped into regions. Witauchsoman lodge belongs to section NE-5B of the Northeast Region.
  • The National Order of the Arrow committee oversees the nation-wide organization.

We're Going to Philmont!

Troop 71 has been selected to attend Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico in August 2010!

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's oldest national high-adventure base. Its 34 staffed camps and 55 trail camps provide an unforgettable adventure in the high country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails.

This is an amazing opportunity for our Troop. More details will be available in the weeks and months to come.
