Advancements

A boy is eligible to become a Scout after completing specific requirements.

Scouts advance by ranks: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. Eagle Scouts can continue their advancement trail by earning Eagle Palms.

Additionally, Scouts earn merit badges; there are over 100 badges currently offered. One of the best places to find out about merit badges is at meritbadge.org. Mr. D's Merit Badge Review page provides Scouts with a rough idea of the level of effort required to complete a given merit badge. Always consult the merit badge booklet for the most current and detailed information.

This is a list of currently offered badges; the badge names displayed in bold font are required to earn the rank of Eagle.

Contact the Scoutmaster before starting any merit badge. He'll give you a signed blue card and help you find a counselor to work with you.

We're Going to Philmont!

Troop 71 has been selected to attend Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico in August 2010!

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's oldest national high-adventure base. Its 34 staffed camps and 55 trail camps provide an unforgettable adventure in the high country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails.

This is an amazing opportunity for our Troop. More details will be available in the weeks and months to come.
